Research has shown that management that has factored a culture of innovation in its RI strategy eventually becomes very successful. For the case study, people at different levels of the organization can get motivated and stimulated to be proactively involved in the change process. The organization needs to legitimize these changes so that when people come up with conflicting ideas, these ideas can either be dismissed or incorporated with a lo t of care. In addition to that, management has to be fully committed in implementing new changes by presenting a united front in order to avert possible resistance to change particularly from employees. The organizationââ¬â¢s strategic approach to RI also needs to be changed. One of these strategic factors includes a tactical approach in introducing the RI strategy. In addition to that, communication is a key component in getting employees to know what their roles and their involvement in introducing change in the organization are. The business structure can not remain the same when change has been introduced in this organization. Therefore, structural factors need to be changed. An organizational structure specifically involves horizontal and vertical hierarchies. A change in structure is indispensable so that the organization and people fit in the new organization. People factors include competence and skills, entrepreneurial approach to doing things, team work, and managementà ¢â¬â¢s involvement. On the other hand, external factors envisage the environment and how the organization under study interacts with it. In addition to that, process factors include the organizationââ¬â¢s approach to implementing the RI, controls and how these controls are exercised.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Newer, cheaper, and cleaner technologies play an important role in product quality. The change agent The change agent in the RI process should be the leadership. Leadership should have the ability to enhance certain practices and destroy those practices that adversely impact on RI. An organizationââ¬â¢s existing strengths can be enhanced to put it at a strategic advantage in the market by strong and intelligent executives who operate at different levels of management. In addition to that, the strengths of an organization can take an organization to a completely new direction in the market. Therefore management gains more competence by incorporating new skills, strategies, technologies, and abilities the driving forces behind a successful RI. A change plan for the organization To introduce RI into the organization, a strategic approach based on the model that was settled on is outlined below. A lot of information about organizations is available on their websites.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Organizing and Leading specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In addition to that, an organizationââ¬â¢s activities include its approaches in disseminating information about its operations. These two elements play a significant role in providing valuable information about a company and available opportunities. Various approaches involved in determining these companies include identifying an individualââ¬â¢s actual direction and growth opportunities in relation to existing companies. Personal strengths, weaknesses, skills, passion, likes and dislikes, and individual talent contribute immensely to determining the direction to take. With an ope n minded approach, a scrutiny of individual company websites and news articles in seeking for the most favorable company count as the most appropriate approach in establishing the company of choice. Further to that, a close consideration of the kind of resume that may be required could significantly contribute to the choice of a job. A well tailored resume and cover letter could greatly count in influencing management in considering the application made once the company of choice has been identified. Add to that, a close evaluation of practical experience and job description are important. This could be in line with what a company needs in relation to its area of specialization. Networking is an important resource in identifying a company with such opportunities. Getting actively involved in passing a resume around in addition to calling and contacting friends forms a significant part in networking. An individualââ¬â¢s winning approach includes individual appearance. Dressing in the manner most attractive and tailored to fit the job one is looking for are important elements. At all times, one is required to be professional. This will positively contribute to the way people view an individual, either as a professional or not. A job seeker should be thoroughly knowledgeable about activities companies invest in and available opportunities within that company. Organization that provides a march between a and b These include Oregon Mentors and Gatekeeper program. These organizations provide volunteer and growth opportunities among other benefits. Job design Employee motivation plays a key role in organizational performance. Various motivational factors play different roles in employee performance and retention. Based on the above case study, Lisa Black is more inclined to higher job satisfaction based on better interpersonal relationships. Good interpersonal relationships enhance better communication, sharing of ideas, better understanding, and better de cision making. It is clear therefore that, for Lisa Black better interpersonal relationships, followed by more pleasant physical surroundings, better job security, better supervision, improved benefits, changes for growth, advancement, higher wages, more responsibility, and improved technology in that order of significance to job satisfaction. On the other hand Juan Esposito values higher wages as the most significant motivational factor. Satisfactory wages place an employee at a position to provide for the essential personal needs in addition to dependants. Espositoââ¬â¢s scale identifies improved technology, chance for growth, advancement, more responsibility, better supervision, physical surroundings, better interpersonal relationships, better job security, and improved benefits to significantly impact on personal motivation in that order. Each scaling speaks clearly of the needs and character of each individual. Black is more concerned about the environment than Esposito. The scale suggests that Esposito places little emphasis on long term benefits that come with employment compared with Black who seems to be more concerned with long term benefits and the working environment. One could conclude that Black is more interested in long term benefits that result in better working conditions while Esposito has significant regard for temporary gain as along as personal interests are satisfied and are given a higher priority. These elements are counterproductive on employee productivity and the quality of work. Designing the job for Lisa and Juan A balance should be struck between the motivational element and organizational needs and strategy. To that end, my approach to job design could involve identifying and categorizing job contentââ¬â¢s satisfying and dissatisfying factors. Dissatisfying factors will help maintain the structure and organization of the business while satisfying factors will significantly impact on individual growth and self-actualization . I could proceed to incorporate job enlargement that could factor more tasks into their activities. I could proceed to implement a job rotation for betterment of their skills and knowledge besides erasing boredom, and then proceed to job enrichment to add value to their job gradually simplifying their job. Positions for Juan and Lisa Their positions could vary widely. Lisa could better serve as a human resource person. Descriptive of Lisaââ¬â¢s characteristics include good interpersonal relationships, more pleasant physical environment, and better job security characteristic of this position. Lisa has incorporated the element of corporate social responsibility and concern for the wellbeing of others. On the other hand Juan could better serve and be happy as a financial officer. Juan could significantly contribute to the institutional wellbeing of the financial health of the organization based on the grading of higher wages as the highest motivational element. Lisa could best ser ve as a manager for the wider concern evident on the scaling, while Juan could be happy serving as a quality control manager for the aspects of technology and wages are identified as highest motivating factors. How did the nation-state emerge Essay Example
How did the nation How did the nation-state emerge Essay How did the nation-state emerge Essay Russia, England, and Japan) and so these regimes were required to permit the empire to appear attractive in national drag[8]. This could mean that this national drag disguised the features as imperialising mission and suppression of other nations, by figuring themselves as nations and not empires. So the absolutist state used nationalism as a tool to manage the population. We saw the state manages the population through many ways and one of the best sociological understandings of state management comes from Giddens work. Modifying Foucaults view of power he argues that through surveillance the state manages the population and economy. He believes this is a key attribute of modern states. The populace in return resists this surveillance. Table 1. 1 elaborates each category of rights that correspond to a particular dimension of surveillance including some examples. These surveillance techniques were not free from weakness. People were still to belong to something: judgments were made on biological, cultural, territorial or religious difference. These are being practiced even today. For example in order to qualify for citizenship rights people have to be a member of that particular territory. In the case of America immigrants need to pass a citizenship exam[9], which is also what the British government is looking into at the moment. Those who do not fit particular categories do not qualify for citizenship rights. However there is another concern here. What is it to be American for example? As seen in Andersons study, there is no doubt that imagined culture exists. I was born between an American father and a Japanese mother. I only hold American passport. Is being American to be half Japanese and half American? Imagined belongingness prevails also within the context of qualifying for citizenship rights. In sum the state has the power to include and exclude people from its territory and through this they can practise nationalist ideology. Category Type of surveillance Locale of resistance Example Civil Rights Surveillance as policing Judicial and punitive organisations controlling deviant conduct Law court the locale for resistance, but extends to all situations in which this type of surveillance carried out If I was wrongfully arrested then I have the opportunity to claim that I am not guilty as charged! Political Rights Surveillance as reflexive monitoring of state administrative power Parliaments the locale for resistance but extends to all situations in which this type of surveillance carried out In 1834 six farm workers from Tolpuddle, Dorset were found guilty on trumped-up charges related to their membership in a clandestine trade union. Soon, petitions pleading for mercy were pouring into Parliament. Free pardons had been granted to all six men. Economic Rights Surveillance as management of production (This surveillance is that of, for example, fordism or taylorism: a scientific management of production) Workplace the locale. Main settings for resistance are found in the mechanics of collective bargaining trade unions and employers. (The state stays out of this locale of resistance) If I am fed up with how my manager treats me I will bring this up with my trade union representative. Unison is a public worker trade union. Each organization has several representatives to give advise and pressure the right people as appropriate.

The Meaning and Origin of Famous German Names
The Meaning and Origin of Famous German Names Have you ever wondered about some of the famous German last names youve heard or read about? Whats in a German name? The meaning and origins of names are not always what they seem to be at first glance. German surnames and place names often trace their roots back to old Germanic words that have changed their meaning or gone out of use entirely. For example, the last name of author Gà ¼nter Grass seems to be obvious. Although the German word for grass is das Gras, the German authors name really has nothing to do with grass. His last name comes from a Middle High German word with a very different meaning. People who know just enough German to be dangerous may tell you that the surname Gottschalk means Gods rogue or Gods scoundrel. Well, this name ââ¬â borne by the famous German TV host Thomas Gottschalk (virtually unknown outside of the German-speaking world) and an American department store chain ââ¬â actually has a much better meaning. Similar mistakes or mistranslations can arise because words (and names) change their meanings and spellings over time. The name Gottschalk goes back at least 300 years to a time when the German word Schalk had a different meaning than it has today. (More below.) Arnold Schwarzenegger is another famous person whose name is sometimes explained in a misleading and even racist way. But his name is only confusing to people who dont know German very well, and it certainly has nothing to do with black people. The correct pronunciation of his name makes that very clear: Schwarzen-egger. Learn more about these and other names in the alphabetical list below. Also, see the list of related Germanic name resources at the end. German Surnames of the Rich and/or Famous Konrad Adenauer (1876-1967) - First chancellor of West GermanyMany surnames come from a geographic location or town. In the case of Adenauer, who served in Bonn as the very first Bundeskanzler, his name comes from a small town very close to Bonn: Adenau, first listed in the records as Adenowe (1215). A person from Adenau is known as an Adenauer. The German-American Henry Kissinger is another example of German name derived from a town (see below). Johann Sebastian Bach (1770-1872) - German composerSometimes a name is exactly what it seems to be. In the case of the composer, the German word der Bach means that his ancestors lived near a small stream or brook. But the name Bache, with an added e, is related to another old word meaning smoked meat or bacon and hence a butcher. (The modern German word Bache means wild sow.) Boris Becker (1967- ) - former German tennis star. He has an occupational name far removed from how Becker gained fame: baker (der Bcker). Karl Benz (1844-1929) - German co-inventor of the automobileMany last names were once (or still are also) first or given names. Karl (also Carl) Benz has a surname that was once a nickname for either Bernhard (strong bear) or Berthold (splendid ruler).à Gottfried Wilhelm Daimler (1834-1900) - German co-inventor of the automobileOlder variations of Daimler include Deumler, Teimbler, and Teumler. Not exactly a name meaning desired by someone dealing with cars, Daimler is derived from an old southern German word (Tumler) meaning swindler, from the verb tumeln, to overcharge or cheat. In 1890, he and his partner Wilhelm Maybach founded the Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft (DMG). In 1926 DMG merged with the Karl Benz company to form Daimler-Benz AG. (Also see Karl Benz above).à Thomas Gottschalk (1950- ) - German TV host (Wetten, dass...?)The name Gottschalk literally means Gods servant. Although today the word der Schalk is understood as rogue or scoundrel, its original meaning was more like der Knecht, servant, knave, or farmhand. In the early 1990s, Gottschalk and his family bought a home in Los Angeles (Malibu), where he could live without being mobbed by German fans. He still spends summers in California. Like Gottlieb (Gods love), Gottschalk was also a first name. Stefanie Steffi Graf (1969- ) - former German tennis starThe German word der Graf is the same as the English title of nobility count. Gà ¼nter Grass (1927- ) - German Nobel-prize winning authorA good example of a surname that seems obvious, but isnt the famous authors name comes from the Middle High German (1050-1350) word graz, meaning angry or intense. Once they know this, many people think the name suits the often controversial writer.à Henry Kissingerà (1923- ) - German-born former U.S. Secretary of State (1973-1977) and Nobel Peace Prize laureateHeinz Alfred Kissingers name is a place name meaning a person from Bad Kissingen, a famous spa resort town in Franconian Bavaria. Kissingers great great grandfather (Urgroßvater) derived his name from the town in 1817. Even today, a person from Bad Kissingen (pop. 21,000) is known as a Kissinger. Heidi Klumà (1973- ) - German supermodel, actressIronically, Klum is related to the old German wordà klummà (knapp, short, limited;à geldklumm, short on money) andà klammà (klammà sein, slang for strapped for cash). As a star model, Klums financial situation certainly does not fit her name. Helmut Kohlà (1930- ) - former German chancellor (1982-1998)The name Kohl (or Cole) is derived from an occupation: a grower or seller of cabbage (der Kohl. Originally a first name (with the common ending -hart), the term was used for someone who was sloppy, untidy, or dirty. Ferdinand Porscheà (1875-1951) - Austrian auto engineer and designerThe name Porsche has Slavic roots and is probably derived from a shortened form of the first name Borislav (Boris), meaning famous fighter (bor, fighting à slava, fame). Porsche designed the original Volkswagen. Maria Schellà (1926-2005) - Austrian-Swiss film actressMaximilian Schellà (1930 - ) - Austrian-Swiss film actorAnother name with Middle High German origins. The MHGà schellà meant exciting or wild. Brother and sister also both appeared in Hollywood films. Arnold Schwarzeneggerà (1947- ) - Austrian-born actor, director, politicianNot only is the former bodybuilders name a bit long and unusual, but it is also often misunderstood. Arnolds last name is made up of two words:à schwarzen, black à egger, corner, or loosely translated, black corner (dasà schwarzeà Eck). His ancestors probably came from a location that was forested and seemed dark (like the Black Forest,à der Schwarzwald).à Til Schweigerà (1963- ) - German screen star, director, producerAlthough it seems related toà schweigenà (to be silent), the actors name is actually derived from Middle High Germanà sweige, meaning farm or dairy farm. Video Evaluation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Video Evaluation - Essay Example This is a very discouraging concept to believe (Molyneux 2013). Prior to watching this video, it was to my understanding that social programs helped the poor people. I thought that the job forecast was actually increasing. I knew that our government was in over its head with debt but I presumed it was due to our countryââ¬â¢s intervention in the Middle East. I believed that the middle class actually were living paycheck to paycheck and I did believe many lived off of credit cards and loans. However, I did not really realize that what they had spent was money they did not have in the first place. At the rate that this economy is moving, there is little to no hope of changing. I had no idea that we were so much worse off economically than we were in the 1950s and while it is easy to blame the President, the majority of the issues are also to be blamed on Congress. I discovered by watching this video, I was quite wrong about many of my theories about our economy. There is much to be learned from this video. The statistics are extremely eye-opening. When looking at the graphs and charts that Molyneux had created, it is evident that many thing that the government are doing to try to help increase the recovery process are actually failing. Programs that were established over 40 years ago are haunting the country today as people who do not work and live off the government are making more than those who do work. The debt is increasing per household, per corporation and also federally. People are spending imaginary money that they simply do not have. The wages people are making are spent on their debts. Items are increasing in price while what they make per hour cannot cover the prices of goods that people need. Many people are living well below poverty level. Actually, it appears that the people who are on welfare are sitting better economically than the people who are actually working to

The key action, known as critical control points can be taken to reduce or eliminate the risk of the hazards being realized. It is used in the food industry to identify potential food safety hazards at all stages of food production and preparation processes. McDonald, as the biggest fast food retailer in the world, take the food safety as a never-ending process, from raw materials, through the facilities and distribution centers, and all the way to the restaurants. Itââ¬Å¾Ã ¢s a top priority at McDonaldââ¬Å¾Ã ¢s. (Sarah Fister Gale, 2006). Situational Analysis Personal Hygiene Personal hygiene of the workers is probably one of the most important thing, because the workers need to interact with the customers, and in the McDonald, they are responsible for the dinning environment. McDonald has specific regulations for workersââ¬Å¾Ã ¢ personal hygiene as follows: 1. Clothes must be clean and appropriate. 2. Keep hair clean, ladiesââ¬Å¾Ã ¢ face should not be covered by the hair. 3. Menââ¬Å¾Ã ¢s hair should be above the collar, long hair is not allowed. 4. Men need to shave and manicure everyday. 5. Of all the McDonaldââ¬Å¾Ã ¢s hygiene standards, most of the regulations are carried out by nearly all the workers in McDonald. But there is the told by one of the workers in McDonald: Sorry to ruin your idea about McDonaldââ¬Å¾Ã ¢s and hand washing. Iââ¬Å¾Ã ¢ve worked at McDonaldââ¬Å¾Ã ¢s for three months, and I never see anyone wear gloves, or wash their hands, managers included. Since this comments comes from the forum, it is difficult for us the judge its reliability. However, the suggestions for the McDonald manager is that, they need to pay more attention to the workers personal hygiene, and try their best the make the situation much better. Cleaning and Sanitizing Cleaning and Sanitizing are necessary processes to create a clean and nice environment for the customers in the McDonald. Readily cleaning regulation means anybody in any position must clean the peripheral position to keep the position clean. What is more, the McDonald has its own special method to simplify the clean and sanitizing job and save the time spent on clean and sanitizing. Firstly, they use lots of paper, plastic and other disposable tableware. This means, the worker only needs to put the table wares which are left by the customers when they finish into the garbage bin, and clean the table. Then everything is done. Secondly, they use trays and trays of paper, which are convenient for the customers to carry, and reduce the chance to dirt the desk. And as a result ,save the time spent on cleaning the table. Finally, all the kitchen equipments are of stainless steel surface. As the stainless steel surface is easy to clean, the efficiency of cleaning work is improved. Here is what has been done in McDonald concerned about pest control: 1.McDonald especially focus on the controlling of cockroach. 2 In the entrance of the distribution center, a kind of special yellow light has been designed to drive the fly. 3 The inside of the distribution center has been painted white, especially the floor around the warehouse. Then it will be much easy to trace the cockroach and the mouse. and some actions can be taken to prevent bad ting from happening. In McDonald, the keys to successful pest controls are as follows: 1. Correct identification of the pest is the first step in control, because information on pest biology, ecology, and behavior can be easily obtained if the pest is known. 2. It is important to detect pest problems early. Careful visual inspections can help in early detection of infestations. 3. Control measures must be timed to target the most vulnerable stage of pests. as many pests are susceptible to control measures at certain times in their lives. Garbage disposal There are many garbage need to dispose everyday in McDonald. In order to protect the environment , McDonald uses paper bags instead of bags. Here are the regulations related to garbage disposal in McDonald: 1 Disposal garbage day and never leave them until tomorrow. 2 Workers must clean the place around them at anytime. 3 Use different trash bins to separate the different kinds of garbage. 4 Wear gloves when dispose garbage 5 Wash hand after disposing garbage Although garbage disposal is a small little thing, attention should be paid to, otherwise it will be harmful to the cleaning procedure. To make all the products has the same flavor, the McDonald especially focus on the standardization of raw materials. And all the materials must be offered by the McDonald distribution center. 2. Choosing the suppliers Knowing that suppliers are a major player in fulfilling its promise and adhering to its social responsibility, McDonalââ¬Å¾Ã ¢s ensures 100% eligibility before adding any resource to its database of approved suppliers. To quality as a McDonaldââ¬Å¾Ã ¢s supplier, they must meet the McDonaldââ¬Å¾Ã ¢s internal food safety standards, product specification and farm biosecurity policies 3. Guality supervision and inspection The McDonald has stringent procurement standards. The purchasing department is responsible for quality supervision and inspection of the raw materials of the suppliers. When a defective product is found, it should be return immediately. And the suppliers should solve the problem as soon as possible. If the suppliers can not solve the problem before the deadline, their qualification for suppliers will be canceled. So the goods receiving procedure of the McDonald is following the HACCP. Storing Foods Storing foods is a funny thing for McDonald. According to the HACCP, the McDonald can store the hamburger that is not sold out as well as the method is correct and proper. 1. The French fries must be thrown away, if it can not be sold out within seven minutes. 2. The hamburger must be thrown away, if it can not be sold out within ten minutes. It is not because of food decay or food defect. The McDonald insists on offering the most valuable and qualified food to the customers. And this is just right the reason why the McDonald does what is mentioned above. So, storing foods is in fact not only a funny thing for McDonald but also a serious thing for McDonald. And through the following statements one can see, how serious it is: 1. The temperature inside the house for cold storage should be between 1 and 4, and the temperature of the house for cold storage should be between -22ÃÆ'ââ¬Å¡Ãâà °~18ÃÆ'ââ¬Å¡Ãâà °. 2. Special attention should be paid to the storage of hamburger, otherwise accident will be easy to happen ,if it is not storied under the standard temperature. 3. The storage of food and materials should be obey to the regulations. And it definitely follows the HACCP, or even does a greater job. Cooling and Defrosting Cooling is a useful way to keep most of the food or materials fresh. When inspect whether the food is fresh or not, McDonald pays much attention to the test of temperature, especially the temperature control of the frozen food. The workers much inspect every product to make sure it is under the condition of cooling. The main principle for the refrigerate is insisting -FIFOà , the FIFO stands for first in first out. Special methods have been made, concerned about how to organize the food, for example, there can only be six boxes of French fries up forward. Before the food being cooled, the manager need to inspect the temperature and the quality of the goods. Cooking and Holding The reported foodborne illness cases per year were 76 millions in the US(Tauxe, 2002) and 9.4 millions in the UK(Walker, et al, 2003).Improper food handling is responsible for 97% of food borne illness associated catering(Griffith CJ, 2000). The McDonald pays much attention to cooking and handling procedure. The main principle for cooking is -less amount many timeà which can ensure the high quality and high fresh level of the food. For instance, twelve hamburgers should be made in four minutes; workers can not cook the twelve hamburgers at one time. The time figured out for making one hamburger is one handured and forty-five senconds, take the additional time into consideration, humburgers can be made in ten minutes. Nearly all foods in the McDonald have the specific holding time, the holding time for humbuegers is ten minutes, for french fries is seven minutes, for apple pie is ten minutes, and for coffee is thirty minutes, and the temperature of the milk sent by the supplier mus t be under 4ÃÆ'à ¢Ãâ¦Ã ¾Ãâ , otherwise, it will be returned. Conclusions In conclusion, workplace hygiene is very important to McDonald which does a good job in such eight aspects above-mentioned. McDonaldââ¬Å¾Ã ¢s ways to manage the workplace hygiene can be good references for other similar establishments. Beause of the work for hygiene is systematic, there may be some behaviours not conform to specified requirements exsit, for instance, some worker may omit washing, McDonald still needs to make better use of the HACCP to make the situation even better. Growing Technology
Growing Technology Famous 1930s actor Bill Benedict expresses ââ¬Å"Technology is getting a new life. â⬠Basically, technology is evolving so much and so fast it is almost as if it is gaining a life of its own. The new technology thatââ¬â¢s emerging gives individualââ¬â¢s a new life and new way of living. In Jonathan Roweââ¬â¢s essay, ââ¬Å"Reach Out and Annoy Someone,â⬠he illustrates his frustration with the new technology better known as a cell phone. He focuses on the negative impact cell phones have on peopleââ¬â¢s lives and how addicting it is. Cell phones have advanced so much to the point where it is giving a new life to society itself. Technology can leave both a positive and negative impact on the American families and society in general. To begin, current technology can increase a familyââ¬â¢s communication. Almost everyone in America owns a computer or has access to one. Computers seem to be the most popular way to communicate even those programmed into the IPhoneââ¬â¢s. Society has gotten more advanced with the way individuals can communicate. It no longer done by instant messaging, but also through Oovoo or Skype; a popular video calling system that allows you to communicate with anyone anywhere. More families are staying in touch with each other although some may live across the United States. In Chang Hye-kyungââ¬â¢s article ââ¬Å"Information age changes family life, value: Concept of family is shifting from ââ¬Ëfamily-centered individualââ¬â¢ to ââ¬Ëindividual-centered family,ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ he states, ââ¬Å"The meaning and direction of changes in the modern family, caused by the development of information technology and extension of network, are multiple. For instance, family membersââ¬â¢ communication is increased by technological development. Computers allow families to keep up with one another by viewing an individualââ¬â¢s profile on a social network such as Facebook or MySpace. As a result, individuals are more aware of each otherââ¬â¢s lives especially those that live long distance by logging on to a computer and seeing pictures or updated status or ââ¬Å"tweetsâ⬠about someoneââ¬â¢s day. Hye-kyung reveals, ââ¬Å"This virtual reality supports the formation of unforeseen networks and connections, new lifestyle types and social concepts, such as capitalism, new liberalism and social fragmentation. The computer and Internet thus have proven to have a positive impact for both types of communication. In addition, current technology can help medical advances by extending and improving life within the society. Medical technology can help in many ways; for instance, it can help to diagnose, monitor, prevent, and even treat any ailments that may be affecting an individualââ¬â¢s health. The Trilogy Linear Accelerator is a superior example of current technology that helps in the medical field. The Trilogy Linear Accelerator helps in optimizing cancer treatments from 15 to 20 minutes to two to three minutes. Micheal Levine, an M. D and medical director of Radiation Oncology Services at John Muir Health, explains, ââ¬Å"With this new technology, we are able to deliver higher and more concentrated doses of radiation to cancerous tumors in less time. â⬠Numerous technological advances exist in health care today which includes more advanced heart monitors, blood tests, and electronic filing systems of patientââ¬â¢s health records. With current technology, health officials are able to test blood for diseases and DNA to help with organ transplants. The test allows longer life span for those who may suffer from any organ problems. The test is able to detect organ rejections by measuring enzymes in the blood. In Emily Singerââ¬â¢s review Elaine Reed, director of Transplant and Immunogenetics Testing at the University of California, Los Angeles states, ââ¬Å"The test holds a lot of promise. â⬠The test promotes a successful transplant procedure. Cardiologist at Stanford and one of the researchers on the study, Hannah Valantine concludes, ââ¬Å"Maybe we can avoid high-dose immune suppression with early recognition and early treatment. â⬠Without this new technology of DNA testing so many health problems would be unsolved and shorter life spans of individuals that didnââ¬â¢t have a chance to receive a new heart. However, technology can be disruptive and physically harmful to society. Rowe illustrates a negative viewpoint of a popular technological device that almost everyone is using the cell phone. Cell phones cause distraction whether it is on the road or in a coffee shop. Thereââ¬â¢s been a number of cell phone related car accidents because of an individual simply texting or talking on the cell phone; therefore, he or she is most likely not paying attention to the road but focusing on the conversation thatââ¬â¢s on the other end of the phone. Some of the cell phone related accidents end with either life threating injuries or death. Rowe illustrates, ââ¬Å"If youââ¬â¢ve been clipped by a car tooling around the corner while driver sits gabbing, cell phone in hand, then you are aware of this. The big problem, of course, is the noiseâ⬠(304). In addition, the noise that cell phones seem to be associated with is the biggest issue of why some individuals may dislike it. Individuals talk loudly into their device with no concern of other individuals that may want some quiet. Rowe claims, ââ¬Å"They produce secondhand noise, just as cigarettes produce secondhand smoke; and from the standpoint of the forced consumer of this noise, the only responsible use is non-useâ⬠(305). Some individuals want the choice on whether or not they want a loud talking individual on a cell phone while he or she is trying to enjoy a quiet peaceful trip or nice cup of coffee. In addition, technology can also hinder the learning environment. The iPodââ¬â¢s smartphones/androids, Ipadââ¬â¢s, and laptops can all have a negative impact on the learning environment. They distract the students and break their focus on what they are supposed to be focusing on, which is their schoolwork. The students have more ways to access their Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, or YouTube accounts that allow them to lose focus on their studies. Thereââ¬â¢s usually so much happening on these sites that distract the students very easily. Facebook posts or tweets from Nicki Minaj on Twitter, these things are so addictive. In G. Jeffrey MacDonaldââ¬â¢s article ââ¬Å"Too Much Computer Exposure May Hinder Learning,â⬠he states, ââ¬Å"The mere availability of computers at home seems to distract students from learning. â⬠With technology getting so advanced, it is hard trying to focus in class when individuals are wondering whose texting or sending them a picture message. Now the new android phones have the capability of video chatting with an application called ââ¬Å"Oovoo. However, the biggest distraction right now are the little hand help computers that acts just like a regular computer, also it can fit right in a pocketbook or even small enough to carry. These new technologies are beginning to have a sort of addicting nature to them. When an individual have a new 3G cell phone or the new miniature computers individuals will want to use it regardless of where he or she may be. Christopher Dede, professor of learning technologies at the Harvard School of Education expresses, ââ¬Å"Thereââ¬â¢s this sort of bizarre elief that computers cast a spell over students and teachers and schools. â⬠These new technologies are distracting and catching the eyes of todayââ¬â¢s adolescents which are causing them to neglect their homework and studies. Technology can be frustrating and almost as addictive as smoking a cigarette is. Current technology can have both a positive and negative impact of families and our society. Current technology serves many positive purposes whether it is helping the medical field or allowing families to have a stronger ability to communicate with one another. Then again, it also serves negative aspects such as physical harm to an individual or mental harm to oneââ¬â¢s education. It all depends on how the technology is being used in individualsââ¬â¢ everyday lives.
